Hey What Are You Still Doing Here?
We've moved over to our new site CaptainsHockey.com what are you still doing here? How did you even get here?
Site Update: September 24 2014
We have some pretty big changes coming for the site so we decided to put up an update on what's going to be going on.
The main fantasy series will continue as we draw closer to the season albeit potentially a bit slower than it's been going up. We've got a lot on the go including building the new site and finding new writers.
Speaking of the new site it is almost complete, about 75% right now. If everything keeps going as it is now it'll be ready for the season.
On the new site we'll be implementing sections for writers that will focus on specific teams. As of now we'll most likely start out with sections for the Canadiens, Leafs and Senators but that's subject to change. Look for new writers to be announced somewhat soon.
Finally without giving too much away our fantasy content will be continuing into the season and keep an eye out for videos possibly
The Ugly NHL: What Happens When Teams Trade Colours
by Mike Conway
In the depths of the off-season I decided to take a break from trying to get into baseball and counting down the days until the season starts (28 days!). For whatever reason I got to wondering if any team's jerseys and logos would look better if they changed colours, or even better if they traded colour schemes with a rival. Pretty soon imagining it wasn't enough so I started to work on this piece and actually changing the colours on jerseys, what I ended up with still looks pretty weird each time I look at it.

2014-15 Fantasy Rankings: Forwards 13-25
by Mike Conway
13. Patrick Kane
A flashy name at number 13, Kane is always a good bet to put up almost point a game numbers. If your league gives out bonus points for highlight goals that are made to look easy then Kane is your man. If the Blackhawks acquire a centre that meshes with Kane then it wouldn’t be crazy to expect above a point a game but I wouldn’t bet my house on a late period Brad Richards so about 70 points in 70 games looks about right.

2014-15 Fantasy Rankings: Forwards 1-12
by Nick Castleman
1. Sidney Crosby
This first pick is a fairly obvious one when it comes to fantasy hockey. Some people may disagree with this pick because of the injury issues Crosby has had in the past, but I don’t think that will be a problem as he has had no injury issues the past 2 seasons. Also to add on to this, I believe Crosby is worth the semi-risk because over his entire career he has averaged over a point a game in each of the seasons he has played.

An Endangered NHL Species, Underpaid Players
by Mike Conway
With the seeming inflation of NHL contracts you don’t have to look for long to find an overpaid player. It seems that every team has one or two recent free agents signings that seem a bit on the high side. Personally I’m inclined to believe that it stems partly from natural inflation and the passage of time, and partly from the salary cap rising and teams being able to spend to a higher cap or needing to spend to a higher cap floor. Regardless of why it happens, it does, and that makes underpaid players fairly rare. Of course every team has some team friendly deals, but I find that these players, for whatever reason, are underpaid for what they bring to the table.

Three Newly Drafted Rookies Primed to Breakout
by Nick Castleman
It is difficult for any team to predict if any of the players they drafted are NHL ready at the beginning of the season. It is probably one of the hardest decisions that a head coach has to make because there is the chance of huge risk and huge reward. The huge risk is stunting development and ruining the prospect that they drafted, but the reward could be a stellar career and a huge rookie season. By saying this I'm going to take over the difficult decision predict which of the drafted rookies will be playing in the NHL next year.
