The second round is coming to an end and after the promise of our first bracket fell apart on the last night of round 1, we'll have our fingers crossed the next couple of nights that the same thing doesn't happen in round 2. Here's how things have shaped up so far.
Boston Bruins vs. Montreal Canadiens
What We Said: 4-3 Bruins
What's Happened So Far: 3-3 Tie
This series is coming down to the wire. Originally we had a 6 game win for Boston but after taking a good look at Montreal we gave them an extra game, we still didn't give them the series. Although at this point we honestly don't know which way this series is going to fall, it could go either way. For the sake of getting at least half our predictions right this time around, we'll go with Boston.
Pittsburgh Penguins vs. New York Rangers
What We Said: 4-3 Rangers
What's Happened So Far: 3-3 Tie
We were getting pretty down on this pick after the Penguins and Malkin rattled off 3 wins in a row, but some very solid play from the Rangers has us back in it. I guess them too, but mostly us. We saw Pittsburgh going down to a solid team below them in the standings for awhile and it looks like it could actually happen here, however it's tough to count out Sidney Crosby, even if he's in a pretty ugly stretch right now. Tonight's game is going to be a good one.
Chicago Blackhawks vs. Minnesota Wild
What We Said: 4-1 Blackhawks
What's Happened So Far: 3-2 Blackhawks
Maybe we were still a little bitter from Minnesota putting the finishing touches on our round 1 bracket but we were expecting a quick beat down by Chicago; and it looked like we were getting a quick beat down as well. Then Minnesota played some really great hockey and made the series interesting. Chicago could still win the series tonight, but would anyone be surprised to see another series go to 7 games, and then have a water fight break out during game 7.
Anaheim Ducks vs. Los Angeles Kings
What We Said: 4-2 Kings
What's Happened So Far: 3-2 Ducks
This series gave us the most headaches when trying to predict what was going to happen. If there's one thing we learned from putting together all these brackets is that predicting is really hard. After looking through all sorts of stats and historical data we decided that LA was going to take the series without too much of a struggle. Well now LA needs to win back to back to win the series and not go home, kudos to Anaheim though for continuing to surprise us, if they win don't expect us to underestimate them again.
